Mark Haak
Mark knows creativity has enormous power for change and that strategic creative can move people and get results – he understands your audience and knows how to connect, inspire and motivate them to action. He has been leading design since helping create the first website for the Toronto Star in 1993, he was one of the founding partners of Swerve Design Group in 1999 and started Design for Good in 2007 as a way to take all that expertise and share it with non-profits.
He takes the time to get to know you, your goals, your dreams and he walks you through a collaborative process, exploring options, creating solutions and presenting strategies that reflect your unique voice and energy. He makes everything easy to understand and easy to use so you can focus on what you do best – serving your cause and communicating to your supporters.
Mark likes to experience life first hand, having started his own non profit projects, traveling Ethiopia, Jamaica and Uganda to build schools, for clean water projects and job creation programs. And when he’s not designing he’s usually found paddling outback in Algonquin with his kids or growing organic food on his farm.
Kelly Shelton
Kelly is a purist with a keen eye and attention to detail. She worked at several big downtown studios working on various projects from Production Artist to Art Director to perfect her craft, which she now applies at Design for Good.
She is the life force behind much of what we do and always keeps us grounded and on track with our eco goals. She is the first to challenge the norm and provide creative alternatives that almost seem too obvious because they work so well.
Kelly also ran our African fundraiser - she helped startup an online store selling recycled paper necklaces made by HIV positive women in Uganda. Kelly managed the day-to-day operations taking orders and shipping them around the world. She helped raise over $25,000US and build 10 water projects that provide clean water to thousands of people.
Kelly is both a teacher and a student. She loves to research and learn and inspire others through her teaching. Kelly leads a very natural life and mixes her time with home schooling, growing food in the gardens and yoga.
