MARK HAAK
Mark brings with him a wealth of creative and interactive experience. He has been leading online design since helping create the first website for the Toronto Star in 1993. Mark was one of the founding parters of Swerve Design Group in 1999 and since then he has designed countless web sites, logos and print marketing materials for a wide range of clients from small startups to large international organizations and non profits.
More recently, Mark has dedicated his time to working with socially and environmentally responsible organizations. He knows creativity has enormous power for change and that strategic creative can move people and get results.
Mark "walks the talk" having started his own non profit projects, traveling to Africa and building schools and and supplying clean water to communities. He lives an environmental lifestyle by homesteading on his farm in the country, helping homeschool his children or paddling in the backcountry of Algonquin with his family.
He brings a unique mix of creative abilities - not only is he a talented designer, but also his photography and paintings have appeared in galleries and are part of private collections. Mark has also received his R.G.D. designation as part of the accreditation process for professional Graphic Designers.
KELLY SHELTON
Kelly is a purist with a keen eye and attention to detail. She worked at several downtown studios working on various projects from Production Artist to Art Director to perfect her craft, which she now applies at Design for Good.
She is the life force behind much of what we do and always keeps us grounded and on track with our eco goals. She is the first to challenge the norm and provide creative alternatives that almost seem too obvious because they work so well.
Kelly also ran our African fundraiser. After Mark returned from Africa she helped startup an online store selling recycled paper necklaces made by HIV positive women in Uganda. Kelly managed the day-to-day operations taking orders and shipping them around the world. She helped raise over $25,000US and build 10 water projects that provide clean water to thousands of people.
Kelly is both a teacher and a student. She loves to research, learn and inspire others through her teaching. Kelly leads a very natural life and mixes her time with homeschooling, growing food in the gardens and yoga.
A PEEK BEHIND THE SCENES
Our studio is located in a restored 160-year-old building outside the GTA (Toronto, Ontario, Canada). We have renovated using environmentally responsible techniques and materials including salvaging wood and beams from old barns, carpeting made of recycled pop bottles, building materials from salvage shops and most of our furnishings are antiques that have already paid their debt to the earth. We compost, ride our bikes (or walk) and take public transit whenever possible. At lunchtime we like to sit and picnic under the maple tree in the back of our building and eat fresh organic produce from our gardens. Its simple, and we enjoy it.
